WISDOM AND PARENTING
“Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” - Proverbs 22:6 NIV
“Discipline your children, and they will give you peace of mind and will make your heart glad.” - Proverbs 29:17 NLT
“A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish man despises his mother.” Proverbs 15:20 ESV
According to the book of Proverbs, the primary role of a parent is:
1. Pass on wisdom to your children
2. Discipline your children
Knowing when to speak and when to stay silent:
Proverbs 10:19 says, “When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.”
Proverbs 15:23 says, “A Word fitly spoken is a joy.”
Managing anger appropriately:
Proverbs 14:29 says, “Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding.”
Proverbs 15:1 says, “A soft answer turns away wrath.”
Handling money faithfully:
Proverbs 21:20 says, “Precious treasure and oil are in a wise man’s dwelling.”
Choosing good friends:
Proverbs 13:20 says, “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise.”
Working hard, diligently:
Proverbs 6:6-8 says, “Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest.”
Proverbs 13:24 says, “whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.”
Proverbs 22:15 says, “Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him.”
Matthew 4:19
“Follow me, and I will make you, fishers of men.”
1 Corinthians 11:23-26
“For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
